Have you ever hosted an event and the next day, you feel let down? You feel like all your efforts are a waste, you didn’t get to talk to many of the guests, or they left before you got to them and feel embarrassed.

Solution: Have clear event planning goals and enjoy the party !

At a well planned event, you feel like a guest at your own party. You are able to mix and mingle without worrying. You are able to introduce guests to each other and enjoy their company. At the end of the event, as you say goodbye to your last guest, and sit with a glass of wine, you reflect in the glow of the evening.

3 Keys to a successful event are:

  • Have a goal
    • Clearly define the reason for the party: celebrate an event ? Celebrate a person? Introduce friends to each other? meet new people?
    • By knowing the goal for the party, you can focus your attention on what matters. This will allow you to define your budget and know where to hold the event, type of entertainment and type of food that is most appropriate.
  • Plan to enjoy yourself as well
    • Have music that you enjoy, plan in advance where you will be during the party and plan the food so you are not stuck in the kitchen. If you can afford it, hire service staff to serve your guests and clean up. If you can’t afford it, assign close friends and family to assist and share the load.
    • This allows you to enjoy being with your guests and enjoy yourself.
  • Communicate your goals to your guests.
    • Ensure that you speak to your closest guests to tell them what’s most important. Make sure you communicate with your event planner/caterer/helpers your goal.
    • The benefit of clear communications is that these people can act as an extension of you, and know what you’re thinking in the grand scheme. With everyone on the same page, your event will be a success.Event Planning Goals

So have a goal, plan to enjoy yourself and communicate clearly.
